Subaru’s Legacy sedan has long been a quirky also-ran in a class dominated by Camrys and Accords. It has fans who appreciate its all-wheel drive, but it has never won widespread popularity with critics or consumers. However Subaru has rebooted it for 2010 offering 3 very different powertrains, and the redesigned model is scoring an 85 on Motormouths, nine points higher than the previous version. Click for more
A certain car-centric movie is winning at the box office, but losing among critics — garnering a mere 26 points on RottenTomatoes.com (our meta-colleagues). Ah, but what of the mechanical stars? This morning, Consumer Reports attempts to explain how the Toyota RAV4 edged the Subaru Forester in its best small SUV ratings. After much handwringing, they admit that either is a fine choice. True enough. Here’s the review breakdown, without the drama. The Rav4 scores a 78. The Forester a 77. Of course, neither is the best-reviewed in its category.
