Kia Forte-fies its Lineup

On the heels of its well-reviewed Soul hatchback, Kia keeps working to erase memories of the Korean brand’s low-rent past. Among other things, they hired one of Audi’s designers to ink the new Forte compact sedan, and it’s currently scoring 83 on Motormouths. That’s an 11-point bump over its predecessor, the ill-received Spectra. Let’s let Motor Trend sum it up:

Rio Wins Battle of the EconoBoxes

USA Today’s resident critic has been tapping the economic zeitgeist of late, rolling out reviews of one budget-priced ride after another. Who wins that race? By his reckoning, it’s the Kia Rio over the Toyota Yaris and Nissan Versa. Which is a tad more definitive than these cars’ overall scores on MotorMouths would indicate: the Versa’s 76 barely edges the Rio’s 75 and the Yaris’ 74. Then again, James R. Healy rates pretty high on the credibility scale, so perhaps he’s on to something grande.

This’ll be fun. Edmunds.com just published its list of the “10 least expensive 2009 midsize sedans on the market.” It’s a handy list. Ah, but what scores do these econo-sedans get from published critics? Glad you asked:

Kia Gets K.I.A. by The Detroit News

The Detroit News’ Scott Burgess just brutalized the Kia Borrego:

The V-6 Borrego wouldn’t compare very well to a 10-year-old Ford Explorer, which, according to Kelley Blue Book, you can pick up for $3,300.
