Autoblog reports that a diverse panel ranging from gearheads like Carroll Shelby and Jay Leno to greenheads such as Jean-Michel Cousteau will chose the 2010 Green Car of the Year.

If we were to predict a winner based on Motormouths scores we’d pick the redesigned Toyota Prius which is averaging an impressive 87. Other nominees include the Audi A3 TDI (scoring 84), the Honda Insight, and Mercury Milan Hybrid (both scoring 83).

Rounding out the group is the Volkswagen Golf TDI which does not have a certified score yet and is closely related to the 2009 winner the Volkswagen Jetta TDI. The winner, whether hybrid or diesel, will be announced December 3rd in Los Angeles.

It's 2011 now and it seems like the Prius is extremely popular, especially due to rising fuel prices. It seems like 1 out of every 5 cars is a Prius here in So Cal.
